Meaningful Decisions at Any Age

Donors at two very different points in their lives shared their satisfaction and pleasure after creating an estate plan with the UWM Foundation.

Ali Nemati and Soodabeh AfsharAli Nemati currently pursues his doctorate in biomedical health informatics (BHI) in UWM’s College of Engineering & Applied Science while working as a data scientist at Northwestern Mutual. He and his wife, Soodabeh Afshar, endowed the Nemati Family BHI Graduate Fellowship Fund with current funding and an estate gift.

“Soodabeh and I are delighted to contribute to the field of biomedical health informatics through the creation of the Nemati Family BHI Graduate Fellowship Fund. We appreciate the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s assistance in setting up this fund. As a BHI student at UWM myself, it brings me great joy to be able to give back to the university in this meaningful way.”—Ali Nemati

Sam and Jean WhiteSam White, a founding faculty member of UWM’s Department of Urban Planning, served the department for nearly 40 years before he retired as professor emeritus. He and his wife, Jean, established the Professor Sam White Fund for Urban Planners to support Master of Urban Planning students.

“Although we had created an estate plan years ago, we decided it was time for an update now that our children were grown. After talking with them, we agreed that including a gift to the UWM Foundation in support of urban planning at UWM would be a meaningful representation of Sam’s life’s work. We felt grateful knowing our children were supportive of our decision, and we could help an area of UWM that has been so important to us.”—Sam and Jean White
